Committees
P&S Council representatives serve actively on one or more Council committees.
Each committee is made up of members from at least three UNI divisions. The P&S Council president selects committee members from our professional and scientific community, with approval in the August meeting. Each committee includes at least one Council member to serve a one-year term, with the option for renewal.

The Executive Committee is charged with formulating the Council's goals, strategies, and plans. Its members are the President, Vice-President, and Committee Chairs. They meet at the minimum once a semester, or at the direction of the Council President.

This committee is responsible for maintaining the P&S Council website, including updating, revising and adding information as necessary. The committee coordinates other communications for the P&S Council, as necessary.

- Employee Issues Committee
This committee has multiple responsibilities. It advocates for and monitors the proper adherence to the P&S policies and procedures for P&S employees. Additionally, it provides a confidential forum for P&S employees to address issues of employee rights and responsibilities. The committee also offers information to P&S employees on these matters and refers them to pertinent university offices when needed. Furthermore, it collaborates with Human Resource Services, as appropriate, to resolve employee rights and responsibilities issues.
The committee keeps the council informed of any employee rights issues and problems. The committee prepares an annual report of activities at the end of the council year. Status reports are made to the council as needed or upon request by the council president.

Goals:
- Advocate and monitor proper adherence to the P&S Policies and Procedures for P&S employees.
- Provide a confidential forum for P&S employees relative to employee rights and responsibilities issues.
- Provide information to P&S employees relative to employee rights and responsibilities issues, with referral to pertinent university offices, as appropriate.
- Work with Human Resource Services and the Office of Civil Rights Compliance, as appropriate, to effect resolution to employee rights and responsibilities issues.
- The committee shall inform the Council of employee rights issues and problems.
- Increase the committee's awareness to P&S staff.

- Employee Relations Committee
This committee explores, promotes and coordinates activities that enhance interaction and communication within the Professional & Scientific staff membership. They identify appropriate public relations efforts and coordinate information from the council to our constituents. They present potential activities and programs to the council for approval.

- Policies & Procedures Committee
This committee regularly assesses the value and effectiveness of the P&S policies and procedures and their implementation. They work with appropriate personnel to develop and recommend any revisions or strategies that best serve the interests of the employees and the university. These recommendations are presented to the council for approval with subsequent submission to the cabinet and ultimate approval by the Board of Regents.

Goals:
- Formally solidify the P&S Policies and Procedures approval process.
- Critically review the effectiveness of the current P&S Policies and Procedures and the suggestions from P&S staff, HRS, Office of Civil Rights Compliance and the University Counsel for P&S Policies and Procedures for Phase II revision.
- Work with appropriate personnel to develop, recommend and update P&S Policies and Procedures that best serve the interests of the employees and the university to the P&S Council.
- Collaborate with P&S Employee Issues Committee to understand and ensure P&S Policies and Procedures are upheld.

- Salary & Fringe Benefits Committee
This committee regularly assesses the implementation of the Professional and Scientific policies and procedures as related to salary, fringe benefits and promotions. They work with appropriate personnel to develop strategies to best serve P&S employees and the university, which are presented to the council for approval and/or discussion.

Goals:
- Seek feedback from P&S Employees on current and future benefits and advocate on their behalf.
- Assisted in communicating current and future benefits to P&S employees to increase awareness and participation.
- Recommend salary distributions for P&S staff regarding across-the-board and merit percentages.
- Research peer institutions and local employers to gain perspective on UNI’s benefits package.
